Douglas P. Gibson, Psy.D., M.P.H., ABPP

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University in 1990, Dr. Gibson attended Nova Southeastern University (NSU Florida) where he earned his Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in 1995 specializing in clinical neuropsychology. En route, he was granted his master’s degree in psychology (1992). He completed his internship at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University where he began specializing in clinical neuropsychology and health psychology.  Following completion of his internship, Dr. Gibson received his postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology and health psychology at Hollywood Medical Center’s acute inpatient rehabilitation program in Hollywood, Florida (now Memorial Regional). For the ensuing 9 years, Dr. Gibson was in private practice as a clinical neuropsychologist and clinical health psychologist. He remained the neuropsychologist for Hollywood Medical Center and maintained hospital privileges at six local medical centers. Additionally, he joined the faculty as an adjunct professor at NSU Florida where he taught and supervised in their graduate psychology program. In 2004, Dr. Gibson started the forensic neuropsychology training program at South Florida State Hospital. He earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from NSU’s School of Medicine in 2005. That same year he was recruited to join the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia/VCU. While there from 2005-2012, he was the neuropsychologist to their organ transplant teams as well as the primary supervisor for their new postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology. In 2006, Dr. Gibson was commissioned as a U.S. Army officer in the Virginia Army National Guard where he served as the lead behavioral science officer for the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Following 8 years of service with VARNG, Dr. Gibson was assigned to the U.S. Army Reserves where he continues to serve in inactive drill status.

In 2012, Dr. Gibson was commissioned as an officer in the Central Intelligence Agency where he served as their forensic subject matter expert, clinical neuropsychologist, and later, intelligence instructor. He was instrumental in creating their traumatic brain injury program, co-chairing their special evaluations review board, and incorporating resilience training into numerous programs. Dr. Gibson has served in multiple conflict/war zones and has trained personnel worldwide.

In 2019, Dr. Gibson was recruited to replace his former supervisor and professor of neuropsychology at Nova Southeastern University. As an associate professor in their doctoral program, Dr. Gibson taught clinical neuropsychology, advanced neuropsychology, and psychological testing among other courses. He also provided intensive supervision for students in the neuropsychology concentration. Additionally, he served as the primary supervisor and neuropsychologist at the university’s new Veteran’s Access Center. He also mentored, supervised, and taught hundreds of predoctoral candidates before retiring in 2022. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals in addition to authoring/co-authoring three textbook chapters.

Dr. Gibson is presently the President and Founder of MedPsych Consulting, LLC, providing medicolegal consultation on personal injury, worker’s compensation, and other forensic matters, including threat assessment, and fitness for duty. He is the volunteer neuropsychologist for Project One Vet at a Time (POVAT) and provides services to Veteran’s Evaluation Services (VES). Dr. Gibson remains active in research, mentoring trainees, and the provision of clinical services.
